Uterine Fibroids

What are Uterine Fibroids?

Uterine fibroids, or leiomyomas, are non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the uterus. They are composed of muscle and connective tissue and vary in size, number, and location. Fibroids can occur within the uterine wall, on the outer surface of the uterus, or inside the uterine cavity.

Common Symptoms:

  • Heavy or prolonged menstrual periods
  • Pelvic pain or pressure
  • Frequent urination
  • Constipation
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Lower back pain
  • Difficulty in conceiving (in some cases)

The exact cause of uterine fibroids isn’t well understood, but factors like hormonal imbalance, genetics, and lifestyle play a role.

Ayurvedic View on Uterine Fibroids

In Ayurveda, uterine fibroids are often associated with an imbalance of doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha), particularly an aggravation of Kapha dosha and impaired digestion leading to the accumulation of toxins (Ama). The improper functioning of Artava Dhatu (reproductive tissue) and blockage in channels (Srotas) are believed to contribute to the formation of fibroids.
